Receiving recognition from your peers and industry leaders is a reassuring experience. I am grateful for that opportunity. But it is you, the readers, who let me know that I got it right. And I thank you, one and all.
Books don’t need to sell a million copies to be successful. They don’t need to wind up on any of the bestseller lists. They don’t need to have a glowing review from some big publication or win any great awards. Your story is successful if it evokes even one emotion from one person. If you made somebody smile even once, if you made them laugh or want to laugh, if you made them want to grab one of your characters and slap them upside the head or shake some sense into them, or if you made them cry… then you have touched someone… and that is a successful story.
